Patriot or hypocrite? Are the super-rich undermining democracy?

Billionaire Nick Candy donated £500,000 to Reform in the second quarter of 2025, according to new political party donation figures from the Electoral Commission. In 2005 he moved to Monaco ‘for tax reasons’. 

Property investor Graham Edwards donated £260,000 to the Conservative Party in the second quarter of 2025. Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch gave him a peerage in August 2025.

Multi-millionaire Bassim Haidar donated £200,000 to Reform in the second quarter of 2025. In 2024 he left the UK to avoid paying more taxes when the government scrapped the ‘non-dom’ tax regime.
